The Moment Everything Changed. (And I didn’t even know it yet)

A true story about trust, pain, and the questions no one tells you to ask… until it’s too late.
The Moment Everything Changed (And I Didn’t Even Know It Yet)
There was nothing special about that day.
It wasn’t marked on a calendar. It didn’t come with a warning. It was just a routine doctor’s appointment—the kind you walk into without thinking twice.
And for a while… that’s exactly what it was supposed to be.
Until it wasn’t.
I remember walking into the restroom like I had done a hundred times before. Nothing felt different. Nothing felt wrong.
And then I turned around.
The toilet was full of blood.
Not a little. Not something you could explain away. Something that stops you. Something that makes you stand there trying to make sense of something that doesn’t make sense at all.
What followed moved fast—tests, answers, a diagnosis: kidney stones. Surgery was scheduled. Everything felt controlled. Handled. Routine.
I trusted it.
Because that’s what you do.
You trust the people who are supposed to help you. You follow instructions. You assume that if something matters… someone will tell you.
But no one told me what was coming next.
No one told me what was going to be introduced into my body while I was under anesthesia.
No one told me that my life was about to split into two parts:
Before.
And after.
Months later, I felt the first sign.
Not pain—not at first.
A small shift. A feeling. Something that didn’t belong.
And then slowly… everything changed.
Pain that didn’t behave like pain.
A body that stopped responding the way it always had.
A life that became something I no longer recognized.
I was eventually given a diagnosis:
Small Fiber Neuropathy.
But a diagnosis doesn’t always come with a solution.
Sometimes it comes with something else:
“This is your life now.”
This isn’t just a story about pain.
It’s a story about trust.
About what happens when you follow every instruction—and still lose everything.
About the questions you don’t know you need to ask… until it’s too late.
Because if I had known then what I know now…
I would have asked.
If this story stopped you for even a moment…
then you’ve only seen the beginning.
